Govern Yourself Accordingly
Countdown To Life

THE REVIEW:

"You ever get the feeling that everything in America is completely fucked up?" - is the opening sentence of Countdown To Life´s second full-length album "Govern Yourself Accordingly". Being formed in Rainier on 2001, Countdown To Life has now been in hardcore scene for four years and released one album so far, "Tragedy is So Irresistible" in 2003. Now in 2005 the band introduces their latest studio effort "Govern Yourself Accordingly", that was released on July 12th through a little indie label New Age Records.

Countdown To Life´s second full-length is a good improvement to their previous "Tragedy Is So Irrestible" album. The band has headed into more mature direction and the guitar riffs are more heavier than ever. Countdown To Life´s vocals has gotten a lot of influences from Reveille´s vocal approaching; really attacking and agressive. First I thought that the vocalist was the same in both bands but I was wrong. The musical side is quite near to a band called Strife. Countdown To Life succesfully combines the best sides of both bands creating their own and refreshing style. The absolute highlights on the album is the opening track "Countdown's Back" that has so awesome lyrics and the guitar work on the song is just so significant. "You ever get the feeling that everything in America is completely fucked up?" - sounds so amazing in the beginning of the song and the crushing and nice guitar solo after it just lights up my inner flames. The "Reveille" type of agressive raping vocals fill out the song leaving a really good taste to my mouth. "Jacko On His Backo" is another track that I just had to mention. It has that top class hardcore and those nice little melodic breakdowns that just takes me breath away. The refrain is the most enjoyable part of the song. "Come On Kids, Lets Go For A Ride, This wont take long, just for night"- is a sentence that really hooks up in my mind when the song ends. Absolutely brilliantly made lyrics!

Countdown To Life has made an nice album that really hasn´t nothing to complain about. Maybe the only complainment that I can find is on the guitar side. The songs aren´t melodic enough in my opinion. Next album should contain more nice guitar solos as you can hear on my favourite song "Jacko On His Backo". After hearing the all 11 songs my opinion of the album is really positive. The band has succesfully combined a Reveille-type of vocal approach to Strife kind of hardcore creating their own attacking and heavy style. The fans of Unbroken, Refused and Strife will find this album for their own, but I really warmly recommend this album to all the people that want´s to experience something new in the US hardcore scene. Impressive.
